Fail early, fail often, but always fail forward. John C. Maxwell

Today, I got an interesting perspective from Prof. Alan Dix on bad ideas and how they could be [simply] different. Interestingly, the context relates to archipelagos.
Developing the navigational charts between islands of good ideas should be an integral part of the design process for a product. Ironically, this comes with familiarity with the waterways of bad ideas.
According to this perspective, horrible inputs represent the oceans and ominous rocks interspacing islands of good ideas.
Thus, to commute between good ideas, one must 'travel through' rocky swathes of bad ones. Over time, we become comfortable sailing through the waters while reducing chances of shipwrecks.
Key takeaways
Make team members comfortable sharing their thoughts on a project.
Be deliberate about entertaining bad ideas during brainstorming sessions with your team.
